How a piece is made

How many steps does it take to go from a hide to a finished piece? This is what separates handmade from mass production.

Selecting｜choosing the right thickness and grain, working around natural marks
Cutting｜every panel cut by hand
Skiving｜edges thinned so folds sit clean and close
Punching｜each hole struck by hand — this sets the angle of every stitch
Hand stitching｜two-needle saddle stitch; even if one point wears through, it will not unravel
Edge finishing｜sanded smooth
Edge paint｜applied and dried layer by layer, formulated for Hong Kong humidity
Burnishing｜polished by hand to finish
